The Accidental Nutcracker | A Christmas AGSM: The PREMIERE!

Starring Isabel Palmer as herself/Clara, this Christmas stopmotion follows the story of Isabel, who receives a Nutcracker soldier from her weird old grandfather. Isabel could care less about the Nutcracker soldier… but could the Nutcracker be more than she thought? Suddenly, Isabel “accidentally” finds herself as Clara…in the Nutcracker. And it’s up to her to defeat the Rat King and save her prince – before it’s too late.

Z: Hello world! I’m Ziana Yang from Z Crew News, reporting to you LIVE from the premiere of Emmie’s 2019 Christmas AGSM stop-motion, The Accidental Nutcracker.

Z: I’m here on the red carpet with the stars of the movie. Let’s take a look and ask some questions!

Alexandra Blakely, who plays herself and the Snow Queen along with numerous other roles such as Polchinelle and Flower, poses for the camera. She’s wearing a stunning sequined gown, paired with a daring leather jacket and country-chic boots.

Z: How did you feel about having such big roles in the movie?

A: I definitely was a little daunted at first, but it ended up being so much fun! It was cool to play myself at the party scene, and it was so completely magical playing the Snow Queen. I really enjoyed my supporting roles, too: especially Polchinelle, because I got to have a lot of fun with it! I’m really grateful for the experience, and I’m glad Emmie casted me as both supporting AND lead!

The paparazzi goes crazy for Logan Everett, who plays the Nutcracker prince in the movie and is a country/pop star, as he runs a hand through his hair and smiles for the camera. He’s dressed in a cool, yet casual, designer plaid shirt with ripped jeans.

Z: How did you feel being one of the only male cast members and playing such a huge role?

L: At first it seemed hard because I had a lot of lines to memorize, but I’ve done tons of TV shows and movies before, along with guest appearances in Emmie’s film. I ended up really enjoying it and I got to try some ballet! The battle scene was 100% the hardest acting thing I’ve ever done. I couldn’t move in that stiff, wood-like costume and it’s impossible to see with the Nutcracker head on!

Jade Palmer strikes a pose in her simple, yet stunning, evening gown designed by her sister. She’s a student at the American Girl Academy Ballet School, and when she graduates plans to join the American Ballet Theatre and become a professional ballerina. Jade plays the Sugar Plum fairy, one of the principal roles in the entire ballet, but this time for the screen.

Z: You’ve played the Sugar Plum fairy before in the ballet. How was it different in a stop motion?

J: The dance was actually a lot easier than the one I’ve performed, but Charlie (who plays the Sugar Plum Prince) had never done ballet before, and we had to do a lot of lifts and tricks and difficult moves! Charlie did a really great job, though. He’s a natural!

As Isabel Palmer, the star of the movie, enters the room, the paparazzi snap photos of her and fans scream and cheer from behind the velvet ropes of the red carpet. She plays the lead role, herself/Clara.

The star is wearing her own design, a delicate white gown with a flowing shimmery skirt, sheer bodice. The look is paired with a stylish white denim jacket and a sideswept hairstyle.

Z: Last year, you played an extra. This year, you’re the starring role of the movie.

I: (Laughs) Yeah, I was shocked when I discovered I was going to play Clara this year. It made sense, because I’ve been dancing since I was two and I played Clara twice in my ballet school’s productions! I really enjoyed playing this version of Clara, though. I was really playing a (slightly sassier!) version of myself who’s lost in the world of the Nutcracker, and that was a really cool role to play. I also got to design some costumes!

Z: How did it feel acting with your sister?

I: I loved hanging out with her! She’s so busy and we never get to see each other, but we had a lot of fun together on set.

J: Definitely! I loved hanging out with my little sis. It was a really fun experience for both of us.

The lead cast – Alexandra, Logan, Isabel, Jade

Finally, the cast posed for some pictures on the red carpet!

Alexandra, Isabel, Jade

All the girls were hugging and laughing on the red carpet. All of their hard work had finally paid off.

Z: It looks like it’s time to head into the theatre for the premiere!

Inside the theatre, the lights dimmed. Suddenly, the director, Emmie, stepped onstage.

“Before the premiere, I want to say a few things. Thank you so much to everyone who supported and shared this AGSM – you guys are the best! I also want to thank my family for putting up with my hogging the computer, trashing the doll room, and obsessive filming. Lastly, I want to thank my dad for helping me with endless technical things. I couldn’t have done this without you.”

The audience cheered as the curtains rose, revealing a huge screen. And the movie began to play.

AHHHH IT’S OUT IT’S OUT IT’S OUT!! I’m freaking out right now. Thank you so much for all of your support! I love you all! Please let me know what you think in the comments!!

Did you watch the movie? Did you like it? What was your favorite part? Who was your favorite character? Did you like the red-carpet premiere photo story?

Here’s What “DD” Really Means | I’m Launching A Lifestyle Blog!

Photo by Elle Hughes on Pexels.com

It took months and months of planning. Writing. Designing. Brainstorming. Organizing. Changing. Creating. And now, DD is ready for the world to see.

But what does DD even mean? What’s this secret project, anyways? Well, you’re about to find out.

But first, here’s what DD doesn’t mean. 😂 (Awesome guesses on the survey, guys!)

“I think that DD means uuuuuuuuuuum………*thinks for 10 minutes* something?”

“Nope 😝 maybe a new doll? I have no idea”

“No earthly idea lol”

“Either a book or an impressive video.”

Photo by Scott Webb on Pexels.com

You’re releasing one of your books??? Nooo idea. XD

“DD… does it have Doll as one of the words?”

“Hmm, another doll??”

“You’re going to publish a book?”

“Videos of your dolls dressed as tap-dancing rainbow llamas? (no idea)”

(I’m 99% sure that last one was Natalie. 😂😂😂)

And here’s some guesses that came pretty close to what DD really means:

Photo by Pineapple Supply Co. on Pexels.com

“Is there a new blog or business?”

“Hmmm, a new blog maybe? A blog design service?”

“Giveaway?”

But, there’s only one guess that got it spot-on:

“IT’S A PERSONAL BLOGGGYYYYYY”

Yup, you read that right! (You also read the title which completely gave this all away, but oh well 😂) I’m finally starting a lifestyle blog – an idea that’s been bouncing around in my brain ever since I first started AGW. It’s been my dream to have a lifestyle blog – and now that dream is coming true!

But wait – what does DD even mean? What does that have to with anything?

Here’s the deal: My new blog is called Diary of a Daydreamer, which is what DD stands for!

The name Diary of a Daydreamer came to me like a whisper in the middle of the night. I kept flipping back and forth between different names, trying to decide what fit DD the best. But then I came up with that name – and I knew it was perfect. I set up some polls to see which one my audience liked the best, and Diary of a Daydreamer won by a landslide!

This new blog is a place where I share my ideas, stories, tips, tutorials, life, songs, and daydreams. At Diary of a Daydreamer, every Saturday you’ll find posts on Blogging, Dance, Fashion, Lifestyle, Music, and Writing. Make sure to subscribe and follow on the new blog so you never miss another post!

CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT DIARY OF A DAYDREAMER!

But here’s the best part – to celebrate DD’s launch, we’re hosting an epic giveaway with amazing prizes! And here’s the best part – the giveaway is COMPLETELY virtual, meaning the only address you’ll have to give me is your email! 😉

YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS OUT ON THESE AMAZING PRIZES! CLICK HERE TO ENTER!

And don’t forget to follow the blog tour! This week, 6 different blogs and I are going to be posting some awesome content for you guys about Diary of a Daydreamer!

Hola! | A Summer AGMV (Cover)

Hey guys! It’s Emmie here with a brand-new AGMV with a summery vibe! I absolutely LOVE this song and I was super excited to cover it for an AGMV!

Lately I’ve been taking summery snapshots with my polaroid camera for my scrapbook, so I decided to go with a polaroid theme for the AGMV.

I added a fun called called Bristol, and hopefully it went with the summery, aesthetic theme of this AGMV! I also put in some clipart and graphics, along with a paint splash for the lyrics in Canva.

I spent all morning dressing dolls, fixing lighting, brushing hair, creating outfits, posing dolls, and snapping photos! The rest of the day I spent editing everything together.

It took a ton of hard work, but I’m really happy about how it turned out!

So, It’s Been A Year

It was weird yesterday, watching my sister’s basketball game. Because almost one year ago I was the one out there on the court.

But I wasn’t okay like she was.

I was exhausted, sickness building up in my body as I ran limply back and forth. If I had gotten the ball I wouldn’t have taken a shot, because I would’ve known I’d miss it.

It all kind of hit me the other night, and tears threatened to spill. But they were happy tears.

Because I looked at how far I’ve come from that crazy day of sickness, of finally knowing what’s wrong, of being whisked off into the ICU without fully grasping what was happening to me. I looked at how much God has used this disease for good in my life.

In case you don’t know already, I have type one diabetes. Basically, my body doesn’t make a hormone called insulin. Insulin helps you use carbs for energy and keep your blood sugar stable. So now, I have to take an artificial medicine version of it whenever I eat. I used to take it through 4 shots a day. Now, a year later, I simply put some numbers into an insulin pump.

A year ago today I was diagnosed with T1D. And I look at all those happy moments and good things that have come along the way.

Like when my friend first visited me when I got home from the hospital. She looked at me like I was some sort of fragile thing that could be shattered in an instant if not careful. But I excitedly showed her my ‘toolkit’ of all the things I now needed to manage this new thing in my life.

Now all my friends forget about diabetes. One time my friend and I wistfully gazed at a slushie stand. I commented on how many carbs it would have, and she said, “Wait, why do you care about carbs?” I almost laughed and had to re-explain everything. Now diabetes is normal for me and my friends.

Or like when I got home from the hospital. My dad, sister, and grandma decorated the table with all the flowers and gifts I got and a huge banner, and they cleaned my room for me. I started crying because I missed them and knew they missed me too. I smiled through my tears and told them over and over how thankful I was.

And my family still is incredibly supportive. They encourage me, love me, care for me, help me, and more. I love them so much and I’m so grateful for all that they’ve done for me and how they’ve helped me through this journey.

Just before my mom and I were about to go home from the hospital, I started to cry because I was scared about what was ahead. If I could even survive. What would happen if I did something wrong? If I would ever eat a donut again.

That last one, I have to laugh at. XD But this morning I ate a donut. Every weekend I have 1-2 donuts. And look at me? I’m still alive. I could eat the donut. I can eat anything. I can DO anything. Diabetes won’t stop me.

I mean, it has stopped me a few times in the past, like how I couldn’t go to summer camp or that awesome out-of-town sleepover one of my friends hosted. I’ve missed out on a bit because of diabetes. But now, those things seem so insignificant compared to all the good things that have happened.

Like how I raised $3,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation! Or how I’m going to be an ambassador for the JDRF Promise Ball this year! Or how when one of my mom’s friends/family members read my diabetes FAQ and went to the doctor because she thought she had type two diabetes, only to discover that she had a heart problem. In a way, I helped save her life through a disease and a talent I’ve been blessed with.

I remember when I was lying in the hospital bed. In the darkness and stillness of the night, these lyrics came to me like a gentle whisper:

Lord, take me under your wing

And the whole world will sing

 Jesus Christ the King

 Is coming

Oh take me by the hand

And help me understand

That You always have a plan, no matter where I am

No matter

Where

Am.

So today, on my ‘diaversiary’, instead of being sad I’m reflecting on how far I’ve come. Because I’ve gone from that ten-year-old version of me worried about never figuring this thing out to a stronger, older, and braver girl who’s finally found the ‘new normal’ that the doctors kept saying diabetes would be. And maybe someday they’ll be a cure for what I have.

But until then, I’ll continue to grow and share and inspire and use this for good. There are so many things I want to do or feel called to do, like raise money to donate to the promise ball and eventually write a book about diabetes someday. So until then:

Yours truly,

If you would like to donate to JDRF and bring us closer to finding a cure for T1D please visit their website here!

PS: I’ve been cleared to go to summer camp at my last doctors’ appointment!

The Emmie Awards 2018! (How it Works + Nominating) [NOMINATING CLOSED]

Hey marshmallows! I was reading through my winter wrap-up post from last year, and remembered that exactly 1 year ago today I introduced the Emmie Awards!

These awards were so fun and popular last year, that I decided to do it again this year and make it an annual thing! December is a big month on AGW: the Emmie Awards, our blogaversiary on the 21, and this year, my Christmas/blogaversiary stop-motion!

So without further adieu, I am proud to introduce…

The Emmie Awards 2018!

The exclamation point is practically part of the title 😂

It works kind of like the Emmy Awards: for each category, you can nominate your favorite bloggers in the comments section! You cannot nominate yourself. (And it would be really awkward if I won something so…you can technically nominate me, but I would prefer you not to.) Nominations will be open until December 16!

Then, I will create a poll where you can vote for the nominees! You cannot vote for yourself, and please, only vote once. Voting will be open until December 25 (Christmas)!

After the voting, I will notify the winners through the contact form on their blog so they can prepare their ‘acceptance speech’! The deadline for the acceptance speeches is on December 30.

On December 31, there will be a special results post featuring the winners and their acceptance speeches! The winners will receive a button to go on their awards page, a shoutout, and of course, glory and bragging rights!

I’m so excited for the awards to begin and I can’t wait to see all of your awesome nominations and the winners! Here are the categories:

2

The Best Doll Blog Award is for your favorite doll blog! Last year’s winner was Madison @ Delightful World of Dolls, so she cannot be nominated or win this category.

3

The Best Book Blog award is awarded to the book blog that posts book reviews, book tags, bookstagram photos, TBRs, and more bookish things! Last year, May @ Forever and Everly won this category, so she cannot be nominated for or win this category.

The Best Lifestyle Blog Award goes to the blogger who posts about his or her lifestyle! well duh Emmie it’s a lifestyle blog Since last year’s winner was Clara @ Clara & Co, she cannot be nominated for or win this category.

5

For the Best New Blog Award, you can only nominate a blog that is less than 1 years old and has not had a blogaversary! This is a brand-new, never seen before category that was not featured last year, so you can nominate anything and anyone that has been blogging for under a year!

6

Do you know a blog with a gorgeous design that catches your eye every time? Or maybe your favorite blogger’s layout is clean, graceful, and easy to navigate? Then this award goes to them! Last year’s winner was Enni @ On the Wings of a Dream, so she can’t win or be nominated for this category.

Then nominate that stop motion for the Hollywood-worthy Stopmotion Award! Last year’s winner, The Goodbye @ Delightful World of Dolls, cannot win or be nominated for this category.

Z Crew News Episode 3 | Coverage You Can Count On (Ft. Emmie & Natalie!)

FOR BETTER QUALITY, VIEW THIS POST ON THE WEBSITE

1

Hi everyone, and welcome back to ZCN! AGW hopes to make this a monthly series, and word on the street is, Paris will be joining ZCN soon! In the meantime, I’m your host, Ziana Yang, here with the fan-favorite segment Around the Blogosphere!

4

We all hope you had an awesome Thanksgiving! Life got in the way, and unfortunately, we weren’t able to get a Thanksgiving post up during our first non-hiatus November. However, the reader is still filled with orange, gold, and brown from when bloggers celebrated the thankful holiday!

Carlye from Silver Fox Studios is hosting a photo contest! This contest will work like AGNDM: Each week, there will be a new theme and an elimination until a lucky doll-photographer is declared the winner! The deadline to sign up was November 10, but you can still read and enjoy the series. Thanks for the tip, Natalie!

Maya from Life Behind a Camera recently finished her novel, titled Hide and Seek, and had an awesome blog tour launching it! As her book’s synopsis reads, Hide and Seek is about: “Amara Clark is haunted. When her childhood friend, Asher, vanished during a seemingly ordinary game of hide-and-seek, she was left bewildered and alone.
Now, eight years later, memories of Asher are coming back to haunt her and she struggles to decipher the meaning of his disappearance…Before they know it, Amara and her best friend, Rowan, are whisked away on a journey to find Asher and take down the sinister group that is holding him captive. But time is running out, and saving one friend could mean losing another.”* This fantastic read is available at Amazon for just $10.12 paperback and $5.99 Kindle! ** Thanks for the tip, Natalie!

3

Speaking of self-published authors, Allison from A Farm Girl’s Life has written and illustrated her very own book of poems! As the author’s note in Unfurling: A Little Book of Poems says, “A poem is a flower bud – such a small package, yet it holds so much in every petal, every word. When the outer layer unfurls, the old, familiar scales fall from your eyes, and everything is transformed. Perhaps that is what beauty is: a transformation.” The book is available at Lulu for $7.99 in paperback.***

Rose from The Bright Bookcase recently wrote a thought-provoking post about the struggles of blogging and blogger jealousy! You can check out her post here! She also is starting a competition called 25 Days of Blogmas. You can sign up for the posting challenge/competion here!

Madison from Madi Grace, Delightful World of Dolls, and Madison Grace Author is still on hiatus, and we hope to see her back soon! Be praying for her health, you guys!

AGs In Alaska is cutting down on her post frequency to prepare for what she calls ‘the best Christmas post ever’! Everyone is waiting in anticipation for the awesome post, and here at ZCN, we can’t wait to find out what it is. “Hmm, I’m not exactly sure [how long I will be gone]! I will try to post a few times during December but most of my work will be spent on the Big Surprise,” she says of how long the break will be, dubbing her Christmas post the same name as FPC before it was revealed.****

And of course, our Big Surprise has been revealed: it’s a photostory competition (FPC, or Fall Photostory Competition)! You can check out parts 1 and 2 of the intro photostory by clicking on the numbers, and you can sign up and check out the rules and how it works here. Stay tuned for an interview with the creators of the series, coming at the end of this post!

Now that we’ve caught up with the latest blogosphere happenings, it’s time to check out our next segment: What’s Up, AGW?

“I’ve been sick for the last week or so,” Emmie says. “With Thanksgiving break and not going out too much, I have a lot of free time! I’ve been working on a video, did a super fun photoshoot, and obviously have been making this post! My mom and I just got back from my grandparents’ house, where my sister and dad are staying until Saturday. We’ll drive back up there, watch the football game, and then bring them home!” She told ZCN on Friday, November 23.

“I’ve also completed 114 pages of my NaNo novel’s structure! I decided to skip the scene outline. I’m usually a panster/minimal plotter, so I really just want those key moments mapped out and the rest I get to creatively make up as I go. Today is the LAST DAY of NaNo (!!!!), and I really need to catch up on the actual writing part – I’ve completed page 1, which is only 876 words of my 6000 wordcount goal.”

She’s using today’s home day to furiously type a novel into existence in hopes of conquering NaNoWriMo once again. “I really don’t want this to be the first year I lose, even though I wasn’t as serious about it this year!” Emmie says.

2

Emmie’s also planning another surprise, coming this Christmas alongside the 2018 Emmie Awards.”All I can say is that it’s a mega-AGSM! It’s been scripted, and some of the characters have been cast. I plan to get some filming done when school gets out for winter break in two weeks.”

Thanks for reading What’s Up, AGW? And now it’s time for some breaking news!

Emmie recently received a mysterious letter from American Girl, announcing that American Girl Magazine’s (and I quote the letter’s heading) “FINAL ISSUE” will be in January/February! Here’s a photo of the letter:

8

“We’re proud of our amazing 25-year run of American Girl magazine, which has given voice to millions of girls since its debut in 1992.  However, just as the broader print magazine industry continues to face serious declines, American Girl magazine is equally challenged with decreasing subscriber numbers as more girls turn to alternative forms of entertainment,” says American Girl Magazine Customer Service in a recent interview with the ZCN team.

“Although we’re sad to say goodbye to the magazine, we look forward to finding new ways to deliver the same type of fun and inspiring content for girls in new and relevant formats.  We’ll have more to share about this in the months ahead.”

American Girl magazine is offering three options for customers to get their annual subscription money back: A magazine subscription to National Geographic Magazine, a refund, or American Girl books valued at $40.

The only problem with the last option is that AG selects the books for you, which means you could get $40 worth of books you already have.

The first and most recent issues of American Girl Magazine, interestingly both featuring redheads holding something. Credit (Magazine #2) Credit (Magazine #3)

When ZCN asked American Girl magazine’s customer service about this, AG responded, “Sorry, but no returns/exchanges/substitutions can be made to the books included in the bundle. They are free to choose another replacement option, or you may consider donating the books to their local library or give them as gifts for other girls to enjoy.”

Emmie and her mom have decided to go with the refund option and spend the money on books they can pick out themselves. “Just like the AG magazine Customer Service, I’m sad to see American Girl magazine go. I’m going to miss waiting for the next issue, starting contest entries that never get sent in, and reading the latest issue for hours on end. My favorite part was the Help! advice column and According to Aggie comics, and I loved the spotlights on real girls from across the country.”

Are you sad to see American Girl magazine go? Leave a comment at the end of this post! But first, we have our Spotlight segment, featuring no other than Natalie from The AG Spot and our very own Emmie from American Girl World!

6

Z: Hi, guys, and welcome to the show!

E: Um, was already here in the first place to help you with the episode, but…hi again!

N: Hey, Z! It’s great to be on the show!

Z: What sparked the idea of Fall Photostory Competition?

E: When Natalie had to leave Standing Firm in my Faith for personal reasons, we missed each other and I emailed her about doing an AG collab. When we were discussing how writing/photo contests like HARPS and CPC were so popular at the time, I had an idea: what if we did something similar, but a photostory competition? In the end, it turned out to be almost nothing like those competitions, but that’s how it began!

N: We were also trying to spark some more interest and add a little more excitement in the doll blogiverse, in addition to having internet friend fun together!

Z: That’s really cool – the blogosphere has been sort of quiet. How long do you think it took to create this competition?

N: A looooooong time. I believe we came up with the idea in February or March, and then decided to work on it in May to make it a summer contest. Unfortunately, we didn’t realize just how long it actually took to plan these things, and there were lots of things to tweak and agree on. Then, when one of my dolls suffered an unfortunate accident, we weren’t able to photograph the beginning photostory…

E: …So then I had an idea to turn it into fall photostory competition! We changed the name, images, and gave the audition round a fall-y theme, did a ton more, and then we were all set! It was a long and complicated process, so it finally being ready is super rewarding.

Z: Wow, that sounds crazy! Besides what you mentioned above, what kinds of things did you have to do to get the competition ready?

E: Making graphics, coming up with scoring and prizes, figuring out rules, creating photo stories, fixing issues, getting a top-secret surprise that we’ll reveal at the end of the competition ready, taking pictures, and more!
N: There were a lot of little things we had to do that we hadn’t even thought of – like figuring out how to cc/bcc in emails and finding a fake text message generator (the weirdest thing I’ve googled yet).

Z: Why did you decide to create the competition?

N: The doll blogiverse has been at a bit of a low ebb lately, with many bloggers leaving or posting infrequently. We wanted to jazz up and add some excitement to the AG community, and this was the perfect way to do it!

E: Yup! I also hope it inspires lots of great ideas, stories, pictures, and friendships through all the readers and participants!

Z: How does the competition work?

N: You can sign up on our blogs, and create a photostory using our prompts. During this first round, which is the ‘audition’ round, we’ll score the photo stories and pick six (or more!) stories for people to vote on. The top three receive awesome prizes!
E: You can check out the prizes at this post!
Z: That’s awesome! When will the competition end? Can you still sign up?
N: The deadline for photostories to be submitted is December 1st, which was recently extended so that more people can enter.
E: And that’s just for the audition round! The finals will overlap into December, (Fall doesn’t technically end until December 21, right? :P) where everyone will get to vote on the photostories (even the participants, but they can’t vote for themselves!)
Z: Where can you sign up? Where can you find the rules?
E: You can sign up right here or here! The rules can be found in those same posts!
N: After you sign up, you’ll receive a confirmation email from either me or Emmie. When your photostory is finished, you’ll submit it to us, and we’ll email you the results!

Z: Thanks for the interview!

E: No problem!
N: My pleasure! It’s been super fun!

And that’s it, folks! Thanks for reading ZCN, and remember to send your tips through the contact form and sign up for Fall Photostory Competition! See you in two weeks!
